 NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR HEARING RESEARCH
FUNDING GRANT IN HONOR OF DR. EARLEEN ELKINS

Each year the National Organization for Hearing Research Foundation (NOHR) awards seed money grants of $10,000 each for investigations into the preventions, causes, treatments and cures of hearing loss and deafness. Proposals that receive the highest rating from NOHR's Scientific Review Committee because of their superior scientific merit and exceptional potential are designated Named Grants in honor of special people and donors. Several years ago, after Dr. Earleen Elkins retired from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, NOHR established the Earleen Elkins, Ph.D., Award for Excellence in Auditory Research for her exemplary contributions to the field. It is given to a female investigator whose proposal is top-ranked. Recipients have included Jennifer Melcher, Ph.D., Elizabeth Keithley, Ph.D. and Gilda Kalinec, Ph.D. NOHR's grant in Dr. Elkins name will continue to be given in perpetuity following her untimely death this past Sunday, January 27, 2002.

The National Organization for Hearing Research Foundation would be honored to received donations in her memory for this named grant from members of ARO. NOHR will notify Dr. Elkins' husband, James Lebo, of the names of all donors of memorial gifts.

Checks for memorial gifts should be made out to NOHR and sent to:
