RESEARCHER, SWALLOW PHYSIOLOGY RESEARCH PROGRAM

The Department of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a researcher to direct the Swallow Physiology research program in the laboratory of Timothy McCulloch, MD. The incumbent will be involved in research design and analysis of swallow physiology using high resolution manometry, videofluoroscopy, electromyography, and endoscopy. This individual will be responsible for coordinating data collection and data analysis, including training and mentoring student researchers. Further, this position will assist in grant writing in an effort to attract extramural funding. This individual will present data at local, regional and national meetings, independently review literature, and design appropriate research methodologies, techniques and procedures. The incumbent will pursue collaborations with other researchers on the UW campus and co-author research proposals for grant submission as well as manuscripts for presentation and publication. The incumbent will oversee compliance with all Institutional Review Board guidelines for ethical conduct of research.

MS or PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Physiology, or related field is required. Relevant lab, research, or clinical experience is also preferred.

Minimum requirements: This position requires a Ph.D. or Master degree in Cell and Developmental Biology, or a Medical degree in Otolaryngology. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and enjoy working in a collaborative environment with strong experience in molecular and cellular biology.

RESEARCH NEUROSCIENTIST

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. and four years' experience in the field of vestibular and oculomotor systems. Preference will be given to those with combined clinical/ surgical experiences in otology and neuro-otology, and those with experience in animal surgery and single unit recordings. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

VISITING RESEARCH SPECIALIST - AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

Department of Speech and Hearing Science, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Department of Speech and Hearing Science, Perceptual and Cognitive Plasticity Lab is seeking a Visiting Research Specialist - American Sign Language. This is a visiting academic professional position and is a renewable 12-month, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits with the possibility of an extension dependent upon external research funding.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and implementation of experimental protocols

  • Coordinate ethical approval for research between the lab and the UIUC Institutional Review Board

  • Act as a liaison with Schools for the Deaf around the United States

  • Travel to Schools for the purpose of data collection

  • Maintain documentation and data necessary for IRB compliance and experimental data analysis

  • Disseminate research findings via both written text and American Sign Language

  • Maintain and update the laboratory website

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant must be a native signer of ASL, with a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and at least two (2) years of experience.

Skills Desired

  • The applicant's field of study is open, but the successful candidate should:

  • Show an aptitude for working with children

  • Be able to quickly learn the skills needed to conduct experimental research with humans

  • Be an excellent communicator
