SUMMARY:The Mind’s Ear and Inner Voice 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Mind's Ear and Inner Voice 2025 | Conference | Anauralia Lab \nAuckland\, New Zealand \n14th - 16th of April 2025 \nThe Mind’s Ear and Inner Voice 2025 is a unique transdisciplinary conference focused on the experience of imagining sounds and the role this plays in our inner lives. Most people can imagine hearing sounds that are not physically present\, such as a favourite piece of music\, the voice of a loved one\, or other sounds such as an ambulance siren in their mind’s ear. We can also imagine making sounds\, especially speech with the  inner voice in our head. \nThese familiar dimensions of everyday experience are a source of fascination for scientists who seek to understand their psychological significance and their basis in processes and structures of the brain. At the same time\, they are important for the creative arts and often play a key role in the work of writers\, musicians\, poets and other artists. Moreover\, recent research has highlighted the existence of dramatic variation between people (including scientists and artists!) in their experiences of auditory imagery and an inner voice. \nThe aim of The Mind’s Ear and the Inner Voice 2025 is to forge new insights and improved understanding of auditory imagery and its role in thinking\, memory and creativity by providing a forum for transdisciplinary exchange of ideas\, theories and research findings. We invite submissions to The Mind’s Ear and Inner Voice 2025 from scientists\, philosophers\, scholars in the humanities and from artists\, especially musicians\, poets and writers who share a fascination with the question of how we experience the sounds in our head.

Given your expertise in this area\, we would like to cordially invite you to submit a paper to any of these sessions. Please\, select the General session in case of the other proposed sessions are not adequate for the topic of your paper\, but the main theme is appropriate. \n  \nOur goal is to establish and spread a design culture on sound and listening. Sound-driven design represents a shift from ‘designing sound’\, as an object to be designed\, towards ‘designing for listening experience’. We consider listening as a design element that can offer granularity to the design process and that highlights human-centered qualities of the sound-driven design space\, as well as the role of the senses in the experience of the sound quality of products and systems. We feel the urgency to fill the gap with the real-world practice\, which is consolidating and already tackling the wicked problems of creating or improving our listening experience of products\, media\, cinema\, video games\, appliances and environments at large. Our theme focusses on three main areas of interest: Applied sound-driven design (A-21-01); Listening experience in sound-driven design (A-21-02); Methodologies for sound-driven design and education.  \n  \nPapers can be submitted for oral or poster presentation through the Forum Acusticum Euronoise 2025 website: https://www.fa-euronoise2025.org. \n  \nSubmission deadline for abstracts not longer than 200 words is January 19th\, 2025\, while papers need to be submitted by March 23rd\, 2025\, in case of abstract acceptance. \n__________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nWe are pleased to invite you to contribute to Main Theme A24 - Virtual Acoustics at Forum Acusticum Euronoise 2025\, the 11th EAA Annual European Conference on Acoustics and Noise Control Engineering\, which will take place in Málaga\, Spain\, from June 23rd to 26th\, 2025. \n  \nMain Theme A24 encompasses 13 structured sessions\, covering a wide range of topics in virtual acoustics: \n\nA24.1 General\nA24.2 Audiovisual rendering of virtual acoustic spaces and multimodal evaluation\nA24.3 Audio Immersion and Cognition in XR\nA24.4 Interactive rendering of virtual acoustic spaces in 6 degrees of freedom\nA24.5 Virtual acoustics and binaural AR in hearing research: challenges of a new paradigm (shared with A14)\nA24.6 Virtual reconstructions in Archaeoacoustic research (shared with A15)\nA24.7 Networked music performances: evaluation and implementation (shared with A11)\nA24.8 Real-time audio generation for interactive virtual environments (games and beyond) (shared with A11)\nA24.9 Realistic Binaural Auralization of Rooms (shared with A15)\nA24.10 Source directivity: capturing\, processing\, and evaluating its effects (shared with A16)\nA24.11 Processing/individualization/interpolation of HRIRs or BRIRs (shared with A16)\nA24.12 Capture\, analysis\, and reproduction methods of virtual acoustic spaces with distributed microphones or microphone arrays (shared with A16)\nA24.13 Auralization of environmental noise sources (shared with A05)\n\n  \nWe encourage researchers and practitioners to submit their abstracts to any of these sessions through the conference website: \n Forum Acusticum Euronoise 2025 \n  \nKey dates: \n\n19/01/2025 - Abstract submission deadline\n04/02/2025 - Abstract acceptance announcement\n23/03/2025 - Paper submission deadline\n06/04/2025 - Paper acceptance announcement\n20/04/2025 - Early bird registration deadline

DESCRIPTION:** Call for Abstracts ** \n-- Opens: July 15\, 2025 -- Closes: September 14\, 2025 -- \nThe 24th annual Auditory Perception\, Cognition\, and Action Meeting (APCAM) will occur on Thursday\, November 20\, 2025. We would like to invite you to contribute your work on any aspect of auditory science to APCAM 2025\, which will occur in Denver\, Colorado (USA) at the same venue as and immediately before the Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society. \nThe goal of APCAM is to bring together researchers from different perspectives to present focused research on auditory cognition\, perception\, and aurally guided action. To support this\, APCAM’s Organizing Committee welcomes submissions on a wide variety of empirical\, theoretical\, and methodological topics in auditory science\, including but not limited to: \n- Auditory memory and imagery\n- Auditory scene analysis; object\, event\, and pattern perception\n- Aurally guided action and navigation\n- Comparative auditory processing\n- Cross-modal correspondences and multisensory integration\n- Healthy vs. disordered hearing and hearing loss\n- Language learning\, processing\, and development\n- Sound localization\, source identification\, and motion perception\n- Music perception\, cognition\, and performance\n- Pitch\, loudness\, and timbre perception\n- Speech perception and production\n- Temporal processing\, timing\, and attention \nSubmissions should include an abstract of 300 words or less\, the title of the presentation\, names and affiliations for all contributing authors as they should appear in the conference program\, e-mail contact information for the primary/submitting author\, and whether a spoken or poster presentation is preferred. The organizing committee will try to accommodate presentation preferences\, though it may not be possible to honor all preferences. If there are more accepted abstracts with a spoken presentation preference than available presentation slots\, preference will be given to presentations judged to represent the strongest contributions\, as well as to authors who did not deliver a spoken presentation at APCAM 2025. \nYou may submit only one presentation as first/presenting author\, but you can co-author as many presentations as you wish. Please note that submission of the same talk or the same poster to APCAM 2025 and to the Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society is not permitted. \nAbstract submission opens July 15\, 2025. All abstracts should be submitted online by following the “Submit an Abstract” link on the APCAM tab of the Auditory Perception and Cognition Society (APCS) website (https://apcsociety.org/apcam-submit.html). The deadline for abstract submission is September 14\, 2025. Authors will be notified about the status of their submission within approximately 3 weeks after the submission deadline. \nTo support the mission of APCAM\, APCS\, and the affiliate journal Auditory Perception & Cognition (AP&C)\, there is a registration fee for 40 USD for PhD professionals and 30 USD for graduate students (the registration fee is waived for undergraduate students). In addition to providing access to APCAM materials\, the registration fee includes a one-year membership to APCS\, an individual subscription to AP&C\, and reduced open-access publication fees for AP&C. For more details about APCS membership\, see https://apcsociety.org/membership.html. \nPresenters at APCAM 2025 can submit a brief report based on their presentation for consideration for publication in a special issue of AP&C. Such reports are not to be confused with traditional conference proceedings (i.e.\, they are longer [10-15 APA-formatted pages for the main text] and are peer-reviewed)\, but like traditional conference proceedings\, would not preclude submission of an expanded paper to AP&C or another journal at a later time. For more information on AP&C or the special issue\, contact Michael Hall (hallmd@jmu.edu) or Mike Russell (mirussell@bellevue.edu).

Jan \nAbout the Session:\nJoin us for the Education Committee’s Coffee Hour session on “Establishing Your Lab as a New PI”\, featuring Dr. Taha Jan (Vanderbilt University) and Dr. Jinkyung Kim (Washington University\, St. Louis). Starting your own lab as a new PI is challenging\, yet a rewarding and exciting opportunity to begin a scientific career as an independent investigator in academia. This session will explore the challenges of starting your own lab (particularly in the first six months)\, including promoting yourself within the institution to strategic planning for setting up the lab space\, negotiating and ordering equipment\, and\, most importantly\, hiring team members\, which contributes greatly to the success of a lab group. Our guest speakers will also discuss time management\, including distributing one’s time for teaching and research while maintaining a good work-life balance and productivity. \nCLICK here to learn more about the panelists \nCLICK here to RSVP!
