Bilingual Reserch Assistant – University of Connecticut
JOB SUMMARY: The University of Connecticut (UConn) is pleased to invite applications for a staff position in the Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences for a Research Assistant 1. Qualifed individuals are invited to apply for a full-time Research Assistant 1 position that will be jointly held in the Auditory Brain Research Lab (Erika Skoe, PI) and the Language and the Brain Lab (Emily Myers, PI).
This position is supported by two NSF grants on the neurobiology of language. This individual will have the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of the research projects, including collecting and analyzing data related to the neurobiology of language in English monolinguals and Spanish-English bilinguals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administering and scoring language assessments in English and Spanish
- Collecting and analyzing data using standard behavioral methods, electrophysiology, and MRI
- Recruiting, scheduling, and coordinating testing of monolingual and bilingual individuals
- Assisting with IRB compliance and lab and computer maintenance
- Coordinating undergraduate research assistant volunteers
- Helping with manuscript preparation and the purchasing of supplies
- Assisting the PIs with the coordination of other lab activities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS or MA in psychology, speech, language, and hearing science, linguistics, neuroscience, or a related field
- Experience conducting research with human participants
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Strong verbal and reading skills in Spanish
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience with MRI or EEG data collection and analysis
- Experience with acoustic analysis of speech
- Experience with experimental delivery software such as OpenSesame, PsychoPy, or Gorilla
- Coding skills in MATLAB or R
APPOINTMENT TERMS: This is a full-time, 12-month, staff position with an anticipated start date between now and September 1, 2022. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus.
