The Departments of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement and the Biostatistics and Research Design Center at Boston Children’s Hospital seek a PhD biostatistician or epidemiologist to collaborate with investigators on basic and clinical research primarily in the area of pediatric otolaryngology. The Department of Otolaryngology has 20 clinical faculty, 4 basic science faculty, and an extensive research portfolio in genetic hearing loss, pediatric airway, pediatric head and neck pathology, and rhinology. The successful candidate will also be a member of the Biostatistics and Research Design Center, a group of more than 20 faculty and master’s statisticians with extensive involvement and long experience in the hospital’s program of pediatric research. Academic faculty appointment will be at the Harvard Medical School, with rank commensurate with experience and scholarly contributions.
The mission of the Biostatistics Center is to promote excellence in the design and conduct of clinical and translational research by providing biostatistical and methodological expertise, consultation, and collaboration to the clinical and translational investigators at Boston Children’s Hospital. Toward this goal, the candidate’s responsibilities include collaborating with investigators to define the appropriate design, analysis and reporting of research studies, teaching short courses, and mentoring trainees and junior faculty in statistical methodology.
The successful candidate will have a doctorate in biostatistics, statistics, or epidemiology with at least 2 years of experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong interest in collaborative research. Experience and expertise are highly desired in such areas as large data sets including PHIS data, clinical trials, longitudinal analysis, multi-level sampling, structural equation modeling, and related software.
