Neurotologist – SSM Health Medical Group
Job offering for a neurotologist with protected time for research and overseas mission work
We have a busy three physician neurotology practice and are actively seeking to add a fourth partner. Our practice became a part of the SSM Health Medical Group in 2021. We offer a competitive compensation package with no ER call responsibilities. We anticipate one partner will retire in the next several years and a new physician will be able to step into his established practice.
Two of the three partners are actively involved in skull base surgery, while all three are fellowship trained in otology. We have an excellent fellowship trained neurosurgeon at St. Anthony who recently joined our team and has enhanced our ability to care for patients with complex skull base pathology. One partner has a special interest in cochlear implant surgery and was involved in establishing Hearts for Hearing, a national leader in cochlear implant audiology and auditory-verbal therapy in 2003. The partners are associated with an independent hearing aid practice, Audio Recovery, with a staff of five audiologists which has served the needs of over 20,000 patients since 1984. Each physician has the opportunity to participate in Audio Recovery, which shares space in the same building with our clinical practice.
We collaborate with the Hough Ear Institute (“HEI”), an internationally-recognized research institution dedicated to hearing restoration. Presently, HEI and the SSM Health Medical Group are involved in preclinical research and anticipating clinical trials involving agents that promote hair cell regeneration and reduce oxidative stress after noise exposure. There is protected and compensated time for research with an outstanding research team of scientists producing cutting edge translational research. There are excellent well-equipped laboratory facilities and collaborations with Oklahoma University of Health Sciences and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Through HEI there is also the opportunity to participate in overseas mission work involving training and teaching in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other regions. The ideal candidate would demonstrate a track record of proficiency in basic science or clinical research and
aspirations for ongoing involvement in research as well as a desire for mission-related teaching and training.
Each partner was trained by Dr. Jack Hough and shares his vision of a Christ centered medical ministry. There are opportunities to participate in short-term medical missions as well as mentoring international physicians who come to Oklahoma City for additional otologic training. Over the years, we have had physicians from Jordan, Vietnam and Nepal and other nations come to Oklahoma City for fellowship training in otology.
Oklahoma City is a rapidly growing metropolitan area which enjoys conservative family values, a relatively low cost of living and a thriving downtown area (Bricktown) modeled after the San Antonio Riverwalk. There are opportunities to be involved in residency education through a relationship either with the University of Oklahoma Otolaryngology Residency Program in Oklahoma City or with Oklahoma State University Otolaryngology Residency Program in Tulsa. For those interested who may have young or teenage children at home, Oklahoma offers many strong public-school districts such as Edmond, Deer Creek and Piedmont, in addition to having great private school opportunities. Oklahoma City is a three-hour drive from the Dallas, Texas metroplex and within a day’s drive of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and New Mexico.
SSM Health Medical Group Otology offers a unique opportunity to practice neurotology in a Christian setting with a well-established practice that has served Oklahoma communities for over 60 years. In addition to enjoying a thriving surgical practice, there are opportunities for clinical research, medical education, short term missions and participation in a busy hearing aid practice.
