Northwestern University
Postdoctoral Fellow or Staff Scientist – Northwestern University
The Savas Laboratory at Northwestern University is looking for a postdoctoral fellow or staff scientist / research associate to lead an ongoing research program on mechanisms of excitotoxicity in acquired hearing loss. This is an opportunity to contribute to a serious public health challenge by developing and implementing approaches at the frontier of cochlear proteomics in an exciting and highly collaborative research environment. Please see recent publications from the lab for a sense of our previous auditory research (PMC5296798 and PMC7722268). An ideal candidate would have experience in synapse anatomy and function, protein biochemistry, histological analysis of mouse cochlea, ABR testing of cochlear function, and management of mouse lines. Computational skills are a plus. Desire to work independently and in groups is essential.
Our laboratory has experience in auditory functional testing, systems biology, proteomics, and protein biochemistry, and enjoys collaborations in this effort with other laboratories at Northwestern University and elsewhere. This NIH funded project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Rutherford Lab in the Dept. of Otolaryngology at Washington University seeking to define the full complement of AMPA-type glutamate receptor pore-forming and auxiliary subunits in the cochlea, for targeting with small molecule therapy to treat noise-induced hearing loss.
