Postdoctoral Fellowship Wayne State University
A postdoctoral position is available in the Holt Laboratory at Wayne State University. Studies in the Holt Lab focus on neural circuitry and mechanisms of hearing and vestibular function. The postdoctoral fellow will investigate the relationship between afferent fiber function and neuronal activity in central pathways related to posture and balance. We are building on recent studies demonstrating a reduction of activity in peripheral vestibular afferents following a single noise exposure. We are now poised to determine the ascending brainstem circuits and intrinsic molecular targets affected by afferent disruption. To examine these relationships we use a variety of techniques including chemogenetics, neurophysiology, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and MRI.
The Holt Lab is committed to preparing postdoctoral fellows for developing and attaining an independent research program. The postdoctoral fellow will be provided access to numerous opportunities for professional development, including support for submitting pilot studies and competitive grant applications as well as workshops on writing and grantsmanship.
Qualifications:
Highly motivated, well organized, inquisitive candidates are sought. A recent PhD in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related field is required. Experience with neurophysiology, immunohistochemistry, or molecular biology is preferred, but candidates with other relevant experience will be considered. The successful applicant will have excellent oral and writing skills. Qualified applicants will be problem solvers who identify and seek out resources to achieve project goals.
Detroit Metro Area:
The Holt Lab is located at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Not only is WSU one of the top research institutions in the state, WSU is also Michigan’s sole urban research institution. Despite being the third largest university in the state, WSU is among the safest campuses in Michigan. Located in the heart of midtown Detroit, WSU is nearby many of Detroit’s best dining, entertainment, and shopping establishments. Detroit’s blend of culturally-rich historical areas and upscale downtown areas offers a unique setting to study, work, and live. Home to four professional sports teams, America’s second-largest theater district, museums, and the Canadian border, Detroit offers something for everyone.
How to Apply:
This is a two year position with potential for extension. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (commensurate with NIH scale).
A cover letter is required and should address your interest in the postdoctoral position and outline relevant skills and experiences. Please include a list of three references.
