Postdoctoral Position in Inner Ear Gap Junctional Function & Noise Induced Hearing Loss
University of Kentucky
Dr. Hongbo Zhao’s lab in Department of Otolaryngology, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, has open positions for postdoctoral fellows to investigate inner ear gap junctional function, deafness mechanisms underlying Cx26 (GJB2) deficiency induced hearing loss, mutation-induced pathology in humans, and gene therapy for this GJB2 induced hearing loss. Other research projects in our lab include ATP-purinergic signaling function in noise-induced hearing loss, in particular, hidden hearing loss, and age-related changes in hearing function.
Dr Zhao’s lab is one of leading lab in the world in study of inner ear gap junctional functions and deafness mechanisms of GJB2 deficiency induced hearing loss. The studies cover from genetics, molecular cellular levels, to intact animals with using of multiple techniques, such as genetic transgenic mice, molecular analysis, electrophysiological recordings, patch clamp, and confocal microscopy (see our lab publication: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/hong-bo.zhao.1/bibliography/public/).
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Hearing Sciences, or other related fields (e.g., Neuroscience and Biology). Applicants from all areas of hearing science will be considered and should be interested in our research, motivated, and productive. Priority will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the techniques mentioned above, in particular, in gene therapy, and working knowledge of the auditory system.
In addition to experimental techniques, postdocs will receive training in dissemination of research, grant writing, research integrity, and other aspects relevant to professional development. Postdoctoral fellows receive a stipend and benefits consistent with current NIH guidelines and university policies. Initial appointment will be for 1-2 years with possible extension based on performance and availability of funding.
Interested candidates should submit a CV and cover letter to Hongbo Zhao firstname.lastname@example.org
