Postdoctoral Position – Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Angelika Doetzlhofer at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine. Our laboratory utilizes mouse genetic tools and molecular and cellular assays to uncover gene-regulatory networks that guide the development and regeneration of hair cells. Located in the inner ear, hair cells function as mechano-receptors and allow us to detect sound and head motion. In mammals, hair cells are not regenerated and in humans their loss is a leading cause of deafness and balance disorders. A potential target for intervention are neighboring supporting cells, which have some latent capacity for regenerating hair cells.
This NIH funded position is for a postdoctoral fellow to study the role of LIN28-let-7 pathway in supporting cell plasticity and hair cell regeneration. Recent relevant papers include Li and Doetzlhofer PNAS 2020 (DOI: 10.1073/pnas.2000417117) and Li et al., Science Advances 2022 (DOI: 10.1126/sciadv.abj7651)
The Doetzlhofer laboratory is part of the Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (https://neuroscience.jhu.edu) and we are members of the Center for Hearing and Balance (https://jhu-chb.org), which supports interdisciplinary research projects in auditory and vestibular neuroscience across Johns Hopkins.
Applicants should have recently obtained their Ph.D. /M.D. or expect to do so in the near future, and have a background in at least one of the following areas: developmental biology, neurobiology, epigenetics and mouse genetics. Good communication skills, ability to work independently, demonstrated creativity, high motivation, and strong desire to learn are highly desired.
To apply, please send a letter describing your current and future research interests, your CV, and names and contact details for three references to Dr. Angelika Doetzlhofer per e-mail: adoetzlhofer@jhmi.edu.
