The Auditory Neurobiology Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU-SM) is seeking a skilled postdoctoral researcher. The successful applicant will work on NIDCD funded projects (Don Caspary, PI) using in vivo and in vitro electrophysiological measures to evaluate the impact of aging on the neural encoding of acoustic signals. Working in the auditory midbrain, these studies will examine the role of cholinergic inputs on the balance of ascending and descending signals. The long-term goals are to better understand how elderly individuals use attentional and cognitive resources to help disambiguate degraded speech. Ideal candidates are highly motivated and hold a PhD in hearing or sensory neuroscience or related field. The Auditory Neurobiology Lab team has experienced scientists with the skills to instruct and collaborate to complete proposed studies. Auditory Neurobiology Lab is part of a group of peripheral and central auditory neuroscience laboratories within the department (Drs. Ben Richardson, Brandon Cox and Vic Ramkumar).
