Two postdoctoral fellowship positions are available to study the anatomical and molecular effects of sex and aging at auditory synapses. The successful candidate is expected to take a supporting role in supervising ongoing NIH-funded research projects and to develop independent projects focused on:
- sex differences in the structure, molecular components, and spatial transcriptomics of the cochlea in adolescence.
- structural and molecular changes of auditory synapses and myelination in aging and age-related hearing loss.
S/he will regularly interact with the growing community of neuroscience researchers at both Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) including researchers affiliated with organizations such as the Center for Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh (CNUP). Postdocs can thus interact with numerous labs sharing similar research interests, and participate in neuroscience seminars, retreats, etc.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, or other relevant field and at least one year of postdoctoral experience if applying to a Senior Postdoc position. Applicants must have demonstrated quantitative skills in anatomy and immunocytochemistry of brain tissues. Experience in electron microscopy would be preferred but not required. Experience and a publication record in sensory systems especially the auditory system is preferred.
