Department of Pharmacology – Auditory Neuroscience Post-Doctoral Fellow
The Auditory Neurobiology Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU-SM) is seeking a skilled postdoctoral researcher.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will work on NIDCD funded projects (Don Caspary, PI) using in vivo and in vitro electrophysiological measures to evaluate the impact of aging on the neural encoding of acoustic signals. These midbrain studies will examine the role of cholinergic inputs on the balance of ascending and descending signals. The long-term goals are to better understand how elderly individuals use attentional and cognitive resources to help disambiguate degraded speech.
SIU-SM Information: The Auditory Neurobiology Lab team has experienced scientists with the skills to instruct and collaborate to complete proposed studies. Auditory Neurobiology Lab is part of a group of auditory neuroscientists within the department (Drs. Ben Richardson and Brandon Cox). SIU School of Medicine is located in the historic capital city of Springfield, Illinois with a population of 120,000 serving over 2 million throughout central and southern Illinois. Required Qualifications: Ideal candidates are highly motivated and hold a PhD in hearing or sensory neuroscience or related field. Applicants must be sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations, must be able to work cooperatively and collegially within the workplace environment, and must be able to adhere to departmental and institutional policies and procedures
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in auditory electrophysiology or auditory neuroanatomy with knowledge of stereotaxic injection techniques in rodent models using tracers and viruses is desirable.
