The Consortium for Hearing, Imbalance, Rehabilitation and Research in Pediatrics (CHIRRP) is actively recruiting an highly motivated and curious PhD student to join our cutting-edge research program. Based at the University of Memphis (a Carnegie R1 Institution), this is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to advancements in understanding normal and disordered hearing and balance processes and develop novel interventions.
Co-directed by Dr. Celine Richard, MD, PhD and Dr. Thierry Morlet, PhD, CHIRRP is a multidisciplinary pediatric consortium dedicated to improving the lives of children with auditory and vestibular disorders. CHIRRP bring together deep expertise in audiology, otolaryngology, neuroscience, pediatric rehabilitation, and allied health to optimize clinical care, standardize diagnostic practices, and accelerate impactful research for children with hearing and balance disorders—whether congenital, acquired, syndromic, or treatment-related.
Jointly funded by UT Health Science Center Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Memphis, the doctoral student will support cross-institutional research initiatives and the development of standardized protocols for clinical data collection and assessment. This position represents a dynamic multisite training opportunity.
This position includes a fully funded research assistantship, covering tuition costs and providing an annual stipend, contingent upon satisfactory academic and research progress.
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrate:
- Academic Excellence: A strong academic record (preferably a GPA of 3.5 or higher) and a Master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders, audiology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Research Experience: Prior experience in a research lab setting, familiarity with research techniques, data analysis software, and a history of research achievements or a strong writing sample are highly valued. Knowledge of human electophysiology testing prefered.
- Passion for Research: Deep curiosity, creativity, and an interest in tackling important questions in hearing science.
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: The ability to articulate ideas effectively (both written and oral), work collaboratively in a team environment, and a willingness to be coached.
