First Regional ARO Meeting (Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri)
The first Regional ARO Meeting was held on October 10th, 2022 at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. It was a great opportunity for the Midwest Region (Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana and Missouri) auditory community to meet, share knowledge, and discuss the latest discoveries in our field. The meeting was held in the beautiful Hixson-Lied Auditorium, and had 70 participants throughout the day.
The fascinating talks and posters spanned a wide variety of topics in the translational hearing field. Six keynote talks were delivered in the morning session from established researchers in the field of hearing and balance, Dr. Ryan McCreery, Dr. Alexander Claussen, Dr. Bo Zhao, Dr. Benjamin Perrin, Dr. Tatjana Piotrowski and Dr. David He. Eight presentations were given in the afternoon session from talented Research Scientists, Post-doctorate Fellows, PhD and Master students, Dr. Lara Bergdolt, Dr. Tian Cong, Dr. Rene Vielman, Dr. Matthew Ingersoll, Dr. Chunkai Wang, Lauren Barbush MSc, Emma Longsworth Doctoral Student, Dr. Molly McDevitt.
We are grateful to ARO, the speakers, presenters, attendees, and session moderators, Drs. Litao Tao, Gopal Jadhav, Hela Azaiez, Tal Teitz, for making such an outstanding scientific/educational event possible. The spirit of fun was extended to the evening hours when we shared dinner, a wonderful student-led singing performance, and lots of dancing to the tunes of music from around the world.
Due to the phenomenal success of this first regional ARO meeting, we look forward to making it an annual tradition for the Midwest area.
The event was sponsored by the Association for Research in Otolaryngology (ARO), Creighton University School of Medicine (Translational Hearing Center, Biomedical Sciences Department, Pharmacology and Neuroscience Department) and Boys Town National Research Hospital.
