Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery The Ohio State University

The Auditory Evoked Potential (AEP) Laboratory in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at The Ohio State University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join our research team. The successful candidate will pursue advanced research training under the mentorship of Dr. Shuman He and collaborators, focusing on neural encoding and auditory processing in both pediatric and adult populations, including cochlear implant (CI) users.

Position Overview

This position offers an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research investigating auditory system function at both peripheral and central levels. The work focuses on how electrical stimulation is encoded in the nervous system and how auditory perception interacts with cognitive function.

The research program integrates multiple approaches, including:

· Electrophysiological recordings of neural responses

· Objective measures of brain activity

· Neuroimaging analyses

· Computational modeling

· Psychophysical testing

· Speech perception assessments

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will contribute to experimental design, software development, data collection, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing. With demonstrated progress, the scholar may also participate in the development and implementation of follow-up studies and new research directions.

Minimum Qualifications

· Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, computer science, psychology, hearing science, neuroscience, or a related field

· Strong background in research methods, data analysis, and statistical approaches

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to work effectively in collaborative, multidisciplinary research teams

· Demonstrated scientific motivation, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to developing an independent research career

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in cochlear implants and auditory neuroscience

· Background in auditory electrophysiology (e.g., eCAP, EEG, or related measures)

· Strong programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python, or similar)

· Familiarity with human subjects research involving clinical populations
