The Fowler Memorial Lab of Columbia University is seeking a postdoctoral associate for experimental work on cochlear mechanics.
The position is available fall of 2026 and will remain open until filled. Our lab explores the basis for cochlear amplification with experimental and analytical studies, using optical coherence tomography and electrophysiology.
Columbia’s core imaging facilities for confocal microscopy and electron microscopy are used to complement the physiological studies. The postdoctoral associate will be involved in these activities and once trained they will work quite independently on a project of mutual interest that falls within the scope of the funding grant.
Qualifications:
- The candidate is expected to have a PhD in science or engineering, but an MD with a quantitative undergraduate degree would also be considered.
- The experimental work is done in rodents, in vivo, and research experience with animals or surgical experience in human is required.
- The work requires fine surgical skills, and the candidate should have such skills or the ability and interest to learn them.
- A quantitative background that includes coursework in calculus, physics, linear algebra, differential equations and computer coding is a plus.
- Data analysis is done in matlab and familiarity with matlab is a plus.
- Previous work with transgenic mouse models is a plus.
Columbia University Irving Medical Center is located in upper Manhattan, New York. The bustling medical center campus is about two miles north of the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses that house engineering and neuroscience, and the campuses are connected by subway and bus.
