We study how the mammalian brain makes sense of sound. To this end we use cutting edge tools like 2-photon Ca2+ imaging, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and optogenetics in behaving mice and in vitro.
Potential projects include:
-Understanding how behaviorally relevant plasticity supports learned associations between sounds and consequences.
-Studying synaptic integration and cellular computations in cortical and sub-cortical auditory circuits.
-Testing how neural activity in the early auditory system supports perception of social communication signals, and how these mechanisms change in neurodevelopmental disorders.
We place a strong emphasis on training and mentoring in all aspects of science. This ranges from conceptual project development, technical expertise, grant writing, scientific presentation, and lab management.
Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience or related discipline and have a track record of publication. Applicants with backgrounds in patch-clamp electrophysiology, computer programming, and/or auditory psychophysics are particularly appreciated.
